This is a software tool that will work with most scanners to let you scan documents.
PaperScan is a universal scanning software. It is universal in the sense that it will work with most scanners supporting different protocols. Usually most such software work with dedicated scanner or one scanning protocol, PaperScan allows you to control any scanner, including network scanners (TWAIN or WIA protocols), cameras or acquisition cards. It provides flatbed and document feeder support also. Usually the problems with scanners are that skew may get introduced, the scanned image quality may not be adequate leading to OCR problems later, etc. This software tool lets you get around these problems with an auto deskew and automatic maintenance of image quality. You are able to input standard images in order to adjust and enhance the image quality by auto-deskewing, removing punch holes, removing borders, blank pages detection and removal, angle rotation, converting to black and white or greyscale or color, adjusting color (brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma), applying filters to smooth, stretch contrast or median the image, applying bi-tonal filters to remove isolated dots or to dilate/erode characters, applying contour, sepia or scan line effects and so on. This is a set of features that makes this tool stand out easily.
The interface is simple, the tools on the toolbar intuitive and of a clean design. Most part of the interface is given over to the preview of the document being scanned. This is a really useful program if you are into large scale scanning operations where this can give you operational flexibility. On a smaller scale too the available features are very useful.
